We believe that access to safe, decent, and affordable housing, adequate food, education, and quality social services is a fundamental human right. Our mission is to empower the homeless of the Putnam County area to become self-sufficient and work to prevent homelessness among our neighbors. BHI has a 30 day shelter program that provides emergency housing for single women and women with children. Meals and personal necessities will be available while residents begin to work toward goals and an independent living plan. While residents are here, we want to assist them to secure permanent housing and work to improve the circumstances that contributed to their homelessness. We expect the individuals we serve to use our facilities to gain safety, self-sufficiency, self-advocacy and respect for themselves and others.
Beyond Homeless Incorporated consists of a shelter program of four rooms with six beds each, which can house a total of 24 people. BHI also offers resource services to assist in developing an independent living plan to become self-sufficient. We can also assist in filling out applications for housing and income maintenance forms. Referrals can be made to other community services. Our staff will attempt to meet resident needs and assist in a way that will provide a period of growth to move beyond a current experience of homelessness.
